Visions

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
(Acts 2:17)

A note to the reader: The following visions are from the author's own experience. I report them as I recalled and recorded them at the time. They are very personal and I include them for the benefit of readers interested in such supernal topics.

A dream with God

A vision with Jesus
Wednesday, March 24, 1999

In my dream I was with God and I had a chance to ask Him questions so I could better understand His mind.

First I asked Him how He can see the condition of the whole world all at once. God showed me this while I stood with Him. He showed me the globe, which I could see clearly as if from outer space, except that our Earth appeared to be set in another landscape – not space. Earth was moving slowly down a mighty river, and not far off the river ended abruptly. Majestic mountains larger than the Earth rose up behind the river. God enabled me to look at the world and receive an overwhelming sense of the conflict that was besetting the Earth at that moment. Where there was war, such as in the Balkans, clouds of smoke or dust arose from the surface of the Earth. Without even being able to see it however, I could sense in an instant how much conflict was going on in the lives of individual people, families, and among nations, all over the face of the Earth. I sensed God’s sadness at this almost universal condition of conflict on all levels. I also saw the Earth heading slowly down the river to the drop-off point. I sensed that if our conflict continued, God would have no choice but to allow the Earth to self-destruct – that would be the choice we had made with our own exercise of free will.

When I had seen all this, I asked God how He could see everything that is going on in individual lives at the same time. He showed me a man – a simple laborer from his looks – and in an instant I was able to "read" his soul. I could sense his whole history, without knowing details, but seeing what effect it had on his present moment. In addition to his problems and sins, I could also sense his potential, which felt like the area where hope resided in this man’s life.

Finally, I asked God how prayer works. God showed me the same man, praying for a younger man – perhaps his son. I perceived that the young man was spiritually bound, frozen in place, as if his limbs were glued together such that he could not act on his own behalf. It was like seeing a quarry who was cornered, with no possible course of action left to him. I sensed that the young man had allowed a tremendous amount of sin or evil into his life and that was why he was so stuck. Then the older man’s prayer reached him, and a white light began to swirl closely around the young man’s body, loosening the bonds that held him. I understood at this point that as a result of the prayer, God could enter the young man’s realm at least to a small extent and provide him with options for getting free of his situation.

While I was  in prayer, Jesus came to me. He wanted to take me to another realm, and I followed him out into the cosmos. Although we seemed to be traveling through dark space away from Earth, we had a wonderful view of stars and planets and galaxies, and there was no sense of being cold or alone or abandoned. Instead, the atmosphere of space was one of embracing love. So to travel through it was to feel loved and cared for on a cosmic level. I wondered if this was God or an aspect of God. I sensed but did not clearly see angelic beings in the ether. Jesus showed me the edge of creation where a gigantic sunrise was happening. He told me that God was always creating new worlds for the delectation and delight of the beings who love Him.

We spent some time marveling in and enjoying this space. Jesus was embracing me the whole time we were together. We then returned to the starting point, which was, in my imagination, in a wood by a stream.

Jesus gave me a commission to teach others to love, as that was all they needed. He said that God gave me a tender heart for a purpose, so I could teach others love. I protested that I didn’t know how to teach others to be tender and he said, ‘You don’t have to. The world as you know it is painful enough; its tribulations are crushing to the human heart. Once people’s hearts are crushed they can understand how God felt when humanity fell.’ I understood that the urgent need is for us to turn our heartbreak into heavenly love for others, and not to become bitter or selfish or hopeless. I asked Jesus to show me how to love and he gave me his heart – he put his heart into my body. (I do not claim to love with Jesus’ heart but I do feel that he will help me to do what he asked of me.)

Then, as he has been standing in that place for a while, a riot of colors suddenly filled the area as flowers burst forth from the earth. This was the effect the presence of Jesus had on the earth.

It occurs to me that when we invite God to have a presence in our hearts, our hearts will bloom also.

Since this vision, I have been thinking of ways to love more, and to encourage others to mold their lives within a vision of love.
